Join Sigma Pro Brett Wells for a beautiful morning walk downtown St. Augustine. Participants will explore and photograph one of St. Augustine’s iconic building, Flagler College, also known as the former Hotel Ponce de Leon. It was built by Henry M. Flagler in 1888 and back in its day it was a pioneer resort in several areas. It was one of the first hotels to have electric wiring and also constructed of poured concrete – revolutionary features during that area. One can find 79 Louis Comfort Tiffany stained glass windows, numerous Spanish sayings painted into the ceiling frescos, columns topped by robed women copied from the temple of Diana in Greece, mosaic floors, Austrian crystal chandeliers and much more. Architects John Carrere and Thomas Hastings created of the most remarkable examples of Spanish Renaissance architecture right here in historic St. Augustine.
