Shiv Verma

Shiv Verma, APSA, MNEC is a published author, photographer, educator and technologist. He is a member of the Panasonic Lumix Luminary Team, an X-Rite Coloratti and a Master at the Arcanum. He has been photographing for over 50 years and has evolved his photography to express his intense devotion to wildlife and nature. Over the years has earned numerous awards and recognition both nationally and internationally. Shiv devotes a great deal of his time formally reviewing photography related products, to education in digital photography and is a speaker and competition judge. He conducts photo tours and workshops worldwide and typically has one tour a month.


Shiv’s book Time-Lapse Imagery was published in February 2014. He has been writing for one of the world’s largest photography education sites “Digital Photography School” with about 1.5 million subscribers. He is also a co-host on TWiP (This Week in Photography) a weekly photography podcast that is the 7th largest in the world.


He belongs to multiple photographic clubs and associations and serves as Vice President of the Digital Circuit NECCC (New England Camera Club Council), a member of the Professional Photographers Association of America, past General Chairman of the PSA International (Photographic Society of America), past Chairman of Nature Division, PSA; Director of the instructional and essay sets, PSA. 


Shiv was elected as an Associate of the Photographic Society of America in 2013 and was elected a Master Member of the New England Camera Club Council in 2008.

THURS 1 - 2:30 P.M.

Lighting

You will see that you do not need to spend thousands to achieve awesome results. The session will concentrate on the following:

Setting up and using off-camera lights

Shooting hot shoe flash units and other lights

Using reflectors, diffusers and other light modifiers

Creative lighting tricks

You’ll use and learn how to:

Control and modify the quality of light produced from a typical shoe mounted flash

Properly use umbrellas, soft boxes, snoots, bounce techniques

Use a single strobe combined with ambient light for great images

We will use: One, two, three and four light sources, light reflectors, modifies and gels. Learn how to set up five basic lighting patterns: how to set up lighting patterns for specific subjects: how to combine lighting patterns, establish lighting ratios for mood and sculpting, lighting for skin and hair colors, use camera angles and appropriate focal lengths for image capture; see how to produce quality photos of simple and complex products, glass liquids, solids and food. You will leave with an understanding of how light works, color of light, quantity of light and quality of light. You will learn how to consistent results and be confident in lighting your subject in any environment.

Golden Hour in the Field

The nature of light is not only ephemeral it is constantly changing. In this workshop we will delve into challenging concepts, using exposure as a tool and how to create a style that you can personalize.

You will learn concepts of light, exposure and how to tame it to create stunning images.  The quality of light during the golden hour is exquisite, but we won’t stop there we will continue into the offerings of the blue hour too.

We will photograph on-location working with available subjects to create compelling images from short to extremely long exposures. We will utilize filters and timers to create extraordinary motion-blur landscapes and seascapes.

In Field Photography at St. Augustine Alligator Farm

This field workshop is designed to be interactive and inspirational. You will learn purpose, visualization, creativity and the best techniques for capturing stunning images of wildlife. You will learn to move away from suffocating compositions and create environmental images that provide the viewer a sense of place, tell a story and communicate the essence of the subject’s existence.  Camera techniques and settings will be briefly covered but we will concentrate on composition and creating images that exude mood and drama.

You will get the most from this workshop if you familiarize yourself with all you equipment and have a good understanding of manual exposure.

Mirrorless – The next generation of photography

This session will focus on Mirrorless cameras, a rapidly growing category and currently the most enticing and popular cameras available. They are light, compact with a full complement of lenses with exceptional photo and video quality makes them very compelling. You will learn the advantages of using mirrorless cameras. This is also a unique opportunity to learn the concepts of hybrid photography, capturing stills from 4 K video, 4K Photo modes and a whole lot more. Best of all “Post Focus” and image stacking will be a highlight. See how mirrorless cameras can change your photography and spark your creativity.
