David Akoubian

David Akoubian has been a photographer since 1972 when his father presented him with his first camera, but his career in photography started in 1992. David learned his craft originally as a painter and from his father who shares his love of nature and photography. Early in his career he traveled with, learned from and taught beside some of the masters of nature photography including John Shaw, Art Wolfe, Galen Rowell, Bryan Peterson, Pat O'Hara, and Rod Planck. David has been teaching photography since 1994 in the classroom and leading workshops around the United States. David presents at many camera clubs across, as well as leading workshops across the United States and Internationally.


David's clients include, but are not limited to, Coca Cola, PNC Bank, Tamron, Angels on Horseback, the Mountain Conservation Trust of Georgia, Lensbaby, The Nature Conservancy, Scholastic Books, and Gibbs Gardens. His photographs and articles have appeared in publications such as Nature Photographer, Audubon Magazine, Blue Ridge Country, Birder's World, Outdoor Photographer, Backpacker Magazine, Shutterbug and many local publications. His work has appeared in several feature books, calendars, as well as in instructional guides. David has been designated a Tamron Image Master.

Photographing Birds at the St. Augustine Alligator Farm

Join professional photographer David Akoubian as he focuses on the birds in the St. Augustine Alligator Farm. He will teach the settings necessary to photograph the birds in varying light, capturing a natural environment as well. David will pay particular attention to the surroundings of the birds, isolating the birds for clean, almost portrait-like images.

Sunrise Field Workshop on St. Augustine Beach

Join professional photographer David Akoubian for a sunrise session on the beach. Participants will learn the proper settings for achieving sunrise images on the beach.

Suggested Gear List: Wide-angle lens for the sunrise, but a shorter telephoto, a zoom will work best covering between 100-400mm. A tripod is optional.

Photographing Birds and Wildlife

Professional photographer Dave Akoubian will teach simple ways to prepare the photographer for opportunities when in the wild to easily capture images of birds and wildlife. He will share how he created an official Wildlife Sanctuary in his own yard and in doing so improved his photography of birds, especially migratory birds. Dave will also discuss the benefits of photographing zoos, rehabilitation centers and sanctuaries to prepare the photographer for a "wild" photography shoot.

Horses on the Beach with Tamron: Hubbard, Akoubian, Kemper and Langell

Join Tamron sponsored speakers David Akoubian, Lewis Kemper, Lisa Langell and Ken Hubbard as they team up to lead this sunrise Horses on the Beach workshop. During this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to capture silhouettes of the horses splashing through the waves along the shoreline.  This special “Team Tamron” field workshop is open to a limited number of participants and will fill quickly.

The Art of Composition

Learning composition from a painter's perspective and learning to capture a scene with a camera vs a paint brush. With a background as an illustrator, Dave Akoubian discovered how placing elements within a frame can lead the viewer through the frame and keep them visually interested as they study the frame. He also will teach the photographer how lens selection, angle of view and light affect the final composition of the image.
